In the world of wings, we know how to pack a punch. But today, we are not just talking about our crispy wings and unique sauce selection—we are talking about something that goes beyond the kitchen. It is about community, friendship and fighting the good fight.
Let us take you back about 13 years to 2011. Ryan Matthews, a young man, stepped into our first-ever location of Wing It On! in Waterbury, Conn. He manned the fryers and made deliveries, proving he had the grit and heart to be part of our team.
But life hit Matthews with a curveball when his mom, Susie, was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Instead of letting it knock him down, he came out swinging. He founded The Susie Foundation—a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families grappling with the harsh realities of ALS.
What started as a small community initiative has since grown into the heavyweight champion event it is today, supporting families across New England.
Fast forward to today, and the bond between Matthews and Wing It On!’s Co-Founders Matt Ensero and Justin Egan are stronger than ever. We have not just built a partnership—but a supportive community forged in the trenches, and it is fueled by a shared passion for giving back.
We have been in Matthews’ corner from the beginning, and this year, we had the honor of once again sponsoring The Susie Foundation’s largest event, The Susie Open, on August 23.
The Susie Open rallied the community, raised crucial funds and reminded everyone why we fight—for the families who have a loved one suffering from ALS and the legacy of Susie Matthews.
In 2023, Wing It On! earned the coveted Susie’s Legacy Award, an honor that recognizes partners who go above and beyond to help The Susie Foundation reach its goals. This award is OUR championship belt, and we wear it with pride because it represents everything we stand for: heart, hustle and a commitment to making a difference.
At Wing It On!, we know that being a champion is not just about winning; it is about fighting for what matters. And nothing matters more than community. We are proud to stand beside The Susie Foundation, gloves on, ready to take on ALS one round at a time.
