Hot chicken concept The Budlong Southern Chicken from Craveworthy Brands is taking it back to a better time with the revival of favorites from its first-ever menu, loved by many. The nostalgic items have returned, new and improved, and are here to stay for good.
Starting this month, The Budlong is reintroducing the classic Southern dishes that initially captured the hearts and stomachs of the Chicago community. This reflects its commitment to bringing back the bold flavors and culinary experiences that its guests hold dear, sharing in the Southern hospitality that The Budlong was founded on.
“At The Budlong, we believe that food has the power to bring people together and we’re dedicated to serving up tastes that foster cherished memories around the dinner table,” said Gregg Majewski, Founder and CEO of Craveworthy. “To embrace this value, we’re excited to bring back some of our original (“O.G.”) menu—filled with dishes that helped create those special moments.”
A few O.G. items that will be improved or making a comeback on the menu are:
- Chicken Fried Steak Combo: Made up of two hearty pieces of chicken-fried steak, perfectly seasoned and golden-fried to a crispy finish and topped generously with creamy white gravy. This dish is served with soft white bread and tangy pickles, all accompanied by a choice of sides.
- Hushpuppies: Golden, fried to perfection and served alongside a zesty Alabama BBQ sauce. These fluffy, flavorful bites are a Southern staple, offering a delightful crunch on the outside and a soft, savory center.
- Mashed Potatoes and Gravy: Creamy mashed potatoes, whipped to velvety perfection and smothered in rich, savory gravy. This classic is a comforting side that elevates any meal offered at The Budlong, providing a delightful combination of buttery flavor and smooth texture.
- Southern Peach Hand Pie: A true Southern hand pie, bursting with juicy peach slices and sweet filling. Each pie is lovingly rolled in a dusting of cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar, creating a crispy, sugary exterior that perfectly complements the fruity goodness inside.
“The return of these beloved menu items is truly a celebration of Southern heritage and culinary love, said Area Manager Jesus Lopez, who has been with The Budlong since its inception. “It’s our way of saying thank you to our loyal guests for being part of our journey from the very beginning.”
